GPRN NSCN K Ang Mai led Government has issued a strongly-worded press statement condemning the killing of two Naga Army cadres following what it describes as unprovoked firing by the Indian Security Forces of the 8th Assam Rifles in Arunachal Pradesh on the night of May 11, 2026.
According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the incident occurred at approximately 8:30 PM at Doimuk Nala Area under Miao Circle, Changlang District, Arunachal Pradesh, where a Naga Army Unit from the Pangsau Pass Command Group came under intense fire while on what the GPRN described as a “peace mobilization duty.” Also Read NSCN (YA) Raises Allegations Over Drone Strike, Rights Issues
The Fallen Cadres
The two cadres killed in the encounter have been identified as Lt. Col. Umkong, from Nayang Village under Tangshang Region, and Sgt. Enu, from Chithok Village, Leinong Region.

The GPRN expressed deep grief over their deaths, calling them “an irreparable loss” not only to their families and comrades, but to the Naga people as a whole. The organisation extended condolences and prayers to the bereaved families.
GPRN’s Version of Events
The GPRN stated that the unit was on duty to maintain peace and to support efforts toward reviving the Stilwell International Highway a strategic route that would benefit communities in the region when the 8th Assam Rifles opened fire without provocation.
The organisation described the act as “irresponsible and provocative,” particularly given what it called a clearly demonstrated commitment to peace and restraint on its part. Call for Accountability
The GPRN called on concerned authorities to immediately provide an explanation, specifically asking whether the firing was carried out under directions from the Government of India or solely on the initiative of the 8th Assam Rifles.
“Lasting peace can only be built through mutual respect, responsible conduct and unwavering commitment to dialogue, not through actions that inflict pain and further alienate communities,” the statement read.

The Indian security forces and the Government of India are yet to issue an official response to the incident as of the time of publication.
