The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) has issued a strong statement condemning the recent assault on Chakroma leaders. The organization described the incident as a grave threat to the safety and dignity of Angami representatives in Kohima district.
Assault on Chakroma Leaders
In its press release, the AYO stated that the incident occurred on February 13, 2026. According to the statement, Chakroma leaders were allegedly attacked by individuals from Maova village. The organization claimed that the assailants intended to inflict serious harm. It maintained that the leaders narrowly escaped with their lives.
Describing the act as hostile and deeply disturbing, the AYO said it is closely monitoring the situation in the Chakroma area. Moreover, the organization remains concerned about the safety of its leaders. Also Read Chakhrama Youth Organisation Issues Ultimatum to Maova Village Council
Recalling the 1995 Quit Notice
The organization also referred to the historical background of the 1995 Quit Notice. According to the statement, the notice was issued following the reported robbery and brutal killing of two Angami men in Manipur in 1995. In response to that incident, a Quit Notice was served to Kuki residents living within Angami jurisdiction.
However, the notice was later kept in abeyance after Kuki leaders approached the Chakroma Public Organization (CPO). They assured that they would respect the authority of the landowners. A declaration was reportedly made on July 31, 1995, at Medziphema. At this event, Kuki representatives pledged to abide by Angami Naga customary laws and uphold the decisions of the Chakroma Angamis.
Warning to Maova Village Council
In light of the recent assault, the AYO emphasized that the 1995 Quit Notice was never withdrawn but only kept in abeyance. The organization stated that it could be revived if circumstances warrant such action. Also Read Updated Dimapur auto-rickshaw fares
The AYO has urged the Maova Village Council to comply with the ultimatum issued by the Chakroma Youth Organization on February 16, 2026, cautioning that failure to do so may invite serious consequences. It reiterated that land ownership rights and customary laws must be respected and upheld at all times.
The statement, issued by the Media Cell of the Angami Youth Organization, reaffirmed the body’s commitment to safeguarding the interests, dignity, and customary rights of the Angami community in Kohima district.
