The District Administration of Zunheboto organized a Mass Awareness Campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on August 23 at the Multi-Purpose Hall under the theme “Prevention is a Better Option.”

Call for Prevention and Responsible Parenting

Addressing the event, L. Chinglem Konyak, NCS, EAC (Hq) Zunheboto, expressed concern over the rising involvement of youth, especially students, in alcohol and drug abuse. He stressed that “Prevention is better than cure. Addiction not only harms health but also destroys social respect and relationships.”

Konyak further urged parents to adopt stricter guidance in nurturing their children. “This generation is being spoiled by soft parenting. True love for children is shown through discipline, good habits, and firm moral guidance,” he added. Also Read Consumer Rights Awareness Held at Zunheboto College

Community Efforts Against Drug Abuse

Anito Kiba, UBI, emphasized that drug abuse often stems from parental neglect and peer pressure. He noted: “Drug addiction is not an individual issue but a community problem. Together we must build a better society. If we don’t stand for something, we’ll fall for everything.”

Boto Sema, Drug Inspector of Zunheboto, highlighted the growing cases of Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) users in the district. “Our future depends on a drug-free generation. Proper care, awareness, and timely intervention are critical to protecting our youth,” he urged.

Cultural Presentations and Youth Involvement

The event, chaired by Liviya Aye, Executive Member of the District No Tobacco Club Zunheboto (DNTCZ), began with an invocation prayer by Nupato Zhimo, Assistant Youth Pastor of ZTSBC. Also Read Zunheboto International Youth Day Highlights HIV Awareness

A short drama performed by Miss Sumi 2024 portrayed the dangers of addiction and encouraged a lifestyle of love and positivity. A special musical performance was given by Akheto V. Asumi, a student of Immanuel Higher Secondary School.

Winners of essay writing and painting competitions organized as part of the campaign were felicitated. The program concluded with a pledge and benediction by Ghunato Assumi, Associate Pastor of SBCZ, reaffirming commitment towards a drug-free society.
