In a united move, major tribal bodies have announced a Nagaland boycott of all State Government functions, including the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on 15th August 2025. The decision follows the state government’s inaction on the demands of the Five Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP), a key issue driving the Nagaland boycott movement.

Sumi Hoho Issues Statewide Boycott Directive

On 12th August 2025, the Sumi Hoho, led by President Dr. Vihuto Asumi, issued a circular instructing all Sumi leaders and residents to refrain from participating in any State Government events. The directive covers all Sumi frontal organizations, including Sumi Kukami Hoho, Sumi Totimi Hoho, Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu, Sumi Youth Organization, and Western Sumi Hoho (Autonomous), reinforcing the Nagaland boycott call. In a separate letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, Dr. Asumi stated that only government employees would attend Independence Day functions, stressing that peaceful non-participation should be maintained and any form of confrontation avoided.

Ao Senden Affirms Boycott Participation

The Ao Senden, representing Mokokchung, also declared adherence to the CoRRP resolution. In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner dated 12th August 2025, President Marsanen Imsong and General Secretary Imti Pokyim confirmed that all civil societies under their banner would abstain from government functions until the state addressed CoRRP’s demands, further strengthening the Nagaland boycott stance.

Angami Public Organization Calls for Awareness Campaign

The Angami Public Organization (APO) issued its own boycott circular on 13th August 2025, signed by Vice President Victor Vikehielie and General Secretary Keneilesa Neikha. The APO directed all its units, including SAPO, WAPO, CPO, NAPO, AWO, ASU, and AYO, to raise awareness and ensure public compliance with the Nagaland boycott directive. Background to the Protest

The Nagaland boycott decision stems from the Five Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy meeting on 9th August 2025 at Hotel Ura, Kohima. Tribal apex bodies unanimously agreed to press for reservation policy reforms by refusing to attend state events until the government met their demands.
