The Zunheboto Wildlife Ban has been officially enforced. This follows after the Divisional Forest Officer, Zunheboto Division, issued a strict circular prohibiting the sale of wildlife and wildlife products across the district. The order covers all markets, roadside vendors, village stalls, and areas along major highways.
Penalties Under Wildlife Protection Act
According to the Forest Department, any violation of the ban will attract strict penalties under Section 51 of The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Offenders may face fines of up to ₹25,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both. The department has clarified that enforcement teams may carry out surprise inspections. Local Bodies Directed to Ensure Compliance
The circular instructs all municipal bodies, village councils, town committees and student organisations to ensure full compliance. Authorities have been asked to widely publicise the ban, inform all vendors and residents, and report violations immediately. Circular Issued to Key District Authorities
The notice was issued by Obed Bohovi Swu, SFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Zunheboto Division, on 26th November 2025. It has been circulated to the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Chief Executive Officer of Zunheboto Town/Municipal Council, all Range Officers, Town Council Chairmen and concerned student organisations to ensure coordinated implementation across the district.
