The first case of Japanese Encephalitis in Zunheboto district has been officially confirmed in Thokihimi village under Aghunato Block, prompting an urgent public health advisory across the region. The Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, Dharam Raj (IAS), confirmed the development on Thursday and called on citizens to strictly follow mosquito control measures.

The district administration’s warning comes amid growing concern over mosquito-borne diseases in Nagaland, especially with the rising risk of viral outbreaks during the monsoon season. Health authorities have begun active surveillance in vulnerable areas, while fogging and awareness campaigns are being stepped up.

What is Japanese Encephalitis?

  • Wear long-sleeved clothes to reduce mosquito exposure.
  • Clean and cover all water storage containers.
  • Remove stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding.
  • Seek medical help for fever, neck stiffness, or confusion.
  • Vaccinate pigs and keep their shelters away from homes.
  • Support health workers during fogging and surveillance.

❌ DON’Ts

  • Don’t allow water to collect in tyres, pots, or containers.
  • Don’t ignore high fever or symptoms in children.
  • Avoid keeping pig pens near residential areas.
  • Do not resist or obstruct health awareness teams.
  • Don’t depend only on home remedies visit a doctor.

Contact for Help or Symptoms

Residents who observe symptoms or need guidance may contact the District Vector Borne Consultant at Ph- 8730882663 for assistance.

Public Cooperation Needed Urgently

The Zunheboto District Administration has reiterated that public awareness and cooperation are crucial in curbing the outbreak. Extensive vector control measures, fogging, and medical outreach will continue in the coming days.

Authorities have urged all villages under Aghunato Block and surrounding areas to remain alert, follow precautions, and report any suspected cases promptly.
