July 7 2025 – In a deeply alarming incident that has sent shockwaves through Dimapur, a 10-year-old girl was reportedly sexually assaulted by a shopkeeper in the vibrant New Market area. The alleged crime, which occurred within the premises of a local shop, has ignited widespread concern among residents and authorities alike.

According to sources close to the investigation, the victim’s family filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Dimapur Women’s Police Station on the evening of July 6, 2025. Law enforcement officials have detained the accused, who is currently in custody. Citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation, police have withheld further details to ensure due process. In strict adherence to legal and ethical standards, the minor’s identity is being protected, in line with international guidelines for reporting on cases involving minors and sexual violence.

Khekishe Aye, the Gaon Bura (village head) of New Market’s Ward-19, issued a forceful statement condemning the act. “This horrific crime against an innocent child is utterly reprehensible and must be met with unanimous condemnation,” Aye declared. “Such incidents not only tarnish the reputation of New Market but also raise urgent questions about the safety of our public spaces, especially for children.”

Aye assured that local market authorities are fully cooperating with the police to support the investigation. He also announced immediate steps to bolster security, including the installation of advanced CCTV systems, the launch of community-driven child safety awareness campaigns, and increased police patrols in the area. “Our goal is to ensure New Market remains a safe and welcoming space for families, vendors, and visitors,” he emphasized.

The incident has sparked broader discussions about the need for enhanced safety protocols in commercial hubs across the region. Community leaders and residents are calling for proactive measures to prevent such tragedies, including stricter oversight of public spaces and educational initiatives to promote child protection. As the investigation progresses, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement promptly.

This report has been crafted with information gathered from local sources, community statements, and official updates, ensuring originality and compliance with journalistic standards.
