GPRN/NNC (AB) Regional Councils Hold Emergency Meeting, Denounce Francis Kikon’s Actions
DIMAPUR, July 4 – The Regional Councils of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland/Naga National Council (GPRN/NNC-AB) convened an emergency meeting at Showuba on July 4. Representatives from various regions gathered to unanimously reaffirm their support for incumbent President S. S. Pongkhu Naga and to strongly condemn the attempted impeachment initiated by Francis Kikon, branding it “illegal, unauthorized, and unconstitutional.”
In a joint statement issued through the Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the councils reiterated that President S. S. Pongkhu Naga remains the legitimate head of GPRN/NNC (AB). He has actively participated in several rounds of political dialogue facilitated by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR). It was emphasized that Francis Kikon, who served as Acting General Secretary, never accompanied the President in any official engagements due to his prolonged illness.
Describing Kikon as a “rotten potato,” the councils stated that he had become a liability to the organization. They unanimously dismissed the legitimacy of the summons he issued against President Pongkhu Naga and Chief of Army Alu Yimkhiung, declaring it invalid and unlawful—particularly in light of his incapacitated state and inability to fulfill his responsibilities.
Key Allegations Against Francis Kikon
Representatives from the Sumi, Yimkhiung, Chang, Zeliang, Kuki, and Sangtam regions presented serious allegations against Kikon, including:
- Misuse of authority and financial mismanagement
- Unauthorized use of official seals and documents
- Attempted defamation of the organization’s leadership
- Acting without the knowledge or consent of the collective leadership
The Zeliang Region pointed out that Kikon only joined the organization last year and failed to convene even a single official meeting. They accused him of misusing the organization’s name to raise funds informally, and called on the public and business community to cut all ties with him. His termination, they said, was officially sanctioned by party decision.
The Sumi Region called Kikon a “selfish leader and money monger,” asserting that he must be held accountable for any disruptions caused within the organization. They voiced their full trust in President Pongkhu Naga’s leadership and his commitment to the Naga national cause.
The Yimkhiung Region condemned Kikon’s actions as unconstitutional and grossly inappropriate, citing repeated leadership failures and dereliction of duty. They applauded the organization’s strong stand against what they termed “selfish elements.”
Meanwhile, representatives from the Chang, Kuki, and Sangtam Regions accused Kikon of spreading misinformation via social media and reaffirmed their full support for President Pongkhu Naga. They pledged to defend the unity and legitimacy of GPRN/NNC (AB).
The councils concluded by emphasizing the importance of unity, collective leadership, and adherence to constitutional procedures within the organization, while warning against any divisive attempts from within.
