The killing reported in the Tizit area of Mon district has now been officially claimed by the NSCN-K (Ang Mai–led) faction. This confirms the incident as an act of inter-Naga political group hostility.
In a press statement issued on January 25, the Ministry of Information and Publicity of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland stated that the Naga Army under NSCN-K has taken full responsibility for the killing of Maj. Manwang Leipha. The deceased was a member of the Yung Aung (YA) group.
Details of the Incident
According to the statement, the incident occurred on January 23 at around 7:30 pm at Longphaoh village under the Tizit area of Mon district. The group identified the deceased as an active YA cadre operating in the region. Also Read Why Nagaland Citizens Fear Reporting Crime
The statement alleges that the killing was carried out following continued hostility between the two factions. It also claims that the YA group had earlier attacked NSCN-K cadres at Khammataing village. As a result, two members from the Pochury and Konyak regions died.
Claims of Prior Warnings and Retaliation
NSCN-K further claimed that repeated warnings were issued to the deceased to cease activities against their group. Village authorities were informed but failed to intervene. Citing these reasons, the faction described the killing as a retaliatory action linked to previous violence. Also Read ULFA & NSCN Condemn Alleged Army Drone Strikes
Security Situation and Investigation
