🔴 Update: A video where a non-local threatens Naga people has taken a new twist. He has now been tracked down and confronted, not by police, but by another non-local from Kohima.

In a surprising turn of events, it wasn’t the police but a non-local from Kohima who tracked down the youth behind a viral hate video threatening Naga people. Instead of a formal apology, the youth offered a vague clarification, which many in Nagaland see as dismissive and unsatisfactory.

Background: The Viral Video That Shocked Nagaland

As reported earlier, a young man believed to be from Assam released a video on social media threatening Nagas and calling Dimapur part of “Dimasa land.” He also insulted Naga communities, labeling them “the worst people in India,” and warned of retaliation if Assam was provoked.

The video ignited intense backlash across Nagaland, with community organizations demanding strict legal action. The statements were seen as a direct attack on Naga identity, cultural dignity, and the constitutional protections guaranteed under Article 371(A).

Unexpected Meeting: Non-Local From Kohima Confronts Him

Rather than any action from Nagaland Police or Assam authorities, a non-local youth from Kohima took the initiative to meet the accused in Assam. This alone stunned many across the state especially considering the deep sensitivities involved.

In a new video recorded during the conversation, the accused youth tried to justify his earlier rant. He claimed that his reaction was triggered by a specific Naga youth’s earlier awareness video, where the Naga had questioned why non-locals seemed to dominate Nagaland’s land and business scene. That original video urged Nagas to be cautious about losing control of their own land.

The accused youth claimed:

“I felt personally targeted… Every Indian has equal rights to travel and do business anywhere in the country.”

However, he failed to acknowledge the core reality—that Nagaland has constitutional safeguards under Article 371(A), which legally restrict land ownership and protect indigenous rights.

Clarification, Not Apology: Why Naga People Remain Angry

In the latest video, the youth insists he did not mean to insult “all Nagas,” but only the individual who made the original awareness video. He blames his choice of words, saying:

“I said ‘Naga people’ unintentionally—it was meant for one person.”

Yet, this “clarification” is seen as superficial and lacking sincerity. While he claims he didn’t intend to offend all Nagas, there is no direct apology, no recognition of Nagaland’s protected status, and no remorse that feels genuine to the community.

Rather than calming tensions, his tone and message have only provoked fresh anger among Nagas who see this as a calculated excuse to avoid accountability.

The Bigger Issue: Special Protections Under Article 371(A)

One of the most glaring failures of the accused youth’s response is his complete disregard—or ignorance—of Article 371(A), a constitutional provision that gives Nagaland the right to protect its land, resources, and customary laws.

In Nagaland, outsiders cannot buy land or settle freely without adhering to the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system. Businesses operated by non-locals are already a point of public concern. By invoking “equal rights” without understanding these safeguards, the youth essentially ignores the legal foundation of the state.

Where Are the Authorities?

What baffles many is this: why did it take a civilian non-local from Kohima to locate the accused and confront him? Why hasn’t Nagaland Police, Assam Police, or any cyber crime unit taken official action yet?

The absence of legal consequences so far has only fueled resentment. For a video that went viral and incited regional tensions, the lack of law enforcement involvement sends a disturbing signal.

Conclusion: Clarification Is Not Accountability

The attempt to reframe the hate speech as a misunderstanding is not being accepted by the Naga community. This is not just a regional squabble it’s a matter of constitutional respect, ethnic dignity, and the rule of law.

Until the accused youth acknowledges his mistake fully and publicly with legal consequences for his earlier threats this issue is far from over.
