Nagaland Murder Accused Arrested in Aalo, Arunachal

July 6 2025 – In a significant breakthrough, a joint operation by the Aalo Police in Arunachal Pradesh has led to the arrest of a key suspect in a high-profile abduction and murder case from Nagaland. The accused, Hobibullah Islam, 21, was apprehended on the intervening night of July 4–5, 2025 from Amtum, a locality in Aalo, West Siang district.

Hobibullah, the son of Mohammad Fakruddin, was employed as a mason under a local contractor at the time of his arrest. According to police sources, the successful operation was the result of coordinated efforts between Arunachal and Nagaland police forces.

The arrest was led by Sub-Inspector Nending Kojing, Officer-in-Charge of Aalo Police Station, supported by SI G. Chapi, SI L. John, and Constable I. Ango, under the overall supervision of SP West Siang Kardak Riba.

Alert From Nagaland Sparked Manhunt

The operation was initiated following a telephonic alert from SDPO Bhandari, Wokha district (Nagaland), who informed SP West Siang about the suspected presence of the absconding criminal in Aalo. A photograph of the accused was shared with Arunachal police, prompting the formation of a special team to locate and apprehend the individual.

Based on a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, multiple raids were carried out in the Amtum area. When police moved in, Hobibullah reportedly attempted to flee but was swiftly subdued by the team.

Background of the Case

Hobibullah is one of the primary accused in Raland Police Station Case No. 01/25, registered under Sections 140(3)/103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case was originally filed as a missing person’s report on November 15, 2024, but was later reclassified as a case of abduction and murder.

Initial interrogation revealed that Hobibullah, along with an accomplice, had allegedly abducted and killed a person in Nagaland before fleeing the state. While his co-accused reportedly moved to Kerala and was arrested shortly afterward, Hobibullah initially took refuge in Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, and later relocated to Aalo in May 2025, where he remained until his arrest.

Transferred to Nagaland Police Custody

Following his arrest, Hobibullah was handed over to a team from Raland Police Station, Nagaland, for further legal proceedings and custodial interrogation.

Police Appeal for Vigilance

Speaking on the development, SP Kardak Riba emphasized the importance of verifying the background of all laborers employed from outside the state.

“Despite repeated advisories, many individuals continue to hire workers without proper verification. This case serves as an eye-opener. We urge both the public and contractors to conduct mandatory background checks,” Riba said.

This arrest marks a major step forward in bringing justice in a long-pending case and highlights the effectiveness of inter-state police collaboration in tracking fugitives.
