The Directorate of Higher Education, Nagaland, has issued a formal letter to the Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, urging immediate intervention over serious irregularities in the recently declared undergraduate even semester results. The letter, dated 21st July 2025, was sent following concerns raised by the Nagaland College Principals’ Association (NCPA).
Principals Raise Alarm on Result Anomalies
According to the Higher Education Department, the NCPA had submitted a detailed representation highlighting widespread dissatisfaction and anomalies observed in the undergraduate results declared for the even semesters of 2025 under the FYUGP (Four-Year Undergraduate Programme) and CBCS (Choice Based Credit System).
In the official communication (letter No. HED/ADMN/UNIV-01/2023/452), the department listed four key concerns raised by the NCPA:
- Mass failures reported in the 2nd semester across all streams, sparking suspicion of systemic flaws in evaluation.
- Unusual failure rates in specific papers across entire departments within institutions, suggesting inconsistency in marking or question-setting.
- Discrepancies in internally evaluated answer scripts, which undermines the transparency and accountability of the internal assessment system.
- Inadequate re-evaluation provisions, depriving students of the opportunity to seek academic justice.
Students, Parents & Teachers Voice Concerns
The letter mentioned that the department has received multiple complaints from students, parents, and faculty members, many of whom questioned the fairness and credibility of the declared results. The scale of failure and inconsistencies across colleges has triggered widespread concern across the academic community in Nagaland.
A senior official remarked that such complaints are not only damaging to the morale of students but also pose a threat to the integrity of the university’s examination system.
Higher Education Department Calls for Remedial Action
The Directorate, led by Ex-Officio Director V. Lovitoly Sema, has requested the Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University to thoroughly examine the issues raised by the NCPA. The department emphasized the need for swift and fair remedial actions, including reviewing internal evaluation mechanisms and strengthening re-evaluation procedures.
“The Department of Higher Education requests your kind authority to look into the critical issues raised by the NCPA and take up the remedial course of actions over the issues raised by them,” the letter stated.
Broader Context: ANCSU Also Raised Similar Concerns
Earlier this month, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) also expressed strong dissatisfaction with the results, alleging that Nagaland University’s evaluation process was “unprofessional” and “insincere.” The union had called for a review committee and the publication of answer key records, pointing to the scale of the failures and urging transparency.
