A local and non-local clash in Kohima’s Lower P.R. Hill erupted on Monday 1/9/2025 after a dispute over the price of a carpet turned violent. According to CCTV footage, a local villagers argued with a shop-owner/shopkeeper’s son Identified as Mohamad Sagat originally from Bihar, over the quoted ₹1,600 price. When the customer offered only ₹500, tensions rose, leading to a scuffle in which both sustained minor injuries.

Colony Leaders Intervene

Lower P.R. Hill Vice Chairman Peteruokuo Belho and Youth Advisor Esther Jamir revealed that they received a call from the shopkeeper’s father, who reported the problem. When they arrived, they found two local customers injured, but the accused had gone into hiding. Since the victims needed to return to their village the same day, the matter could not be settled immediately.

Though the CCTV footage lacked audio, colony leaders observed the sequence of events and criticized the accused. “Whether good or bad, customers must always be respected, and this behavior cannot be justified,” said Jamir. Also Read Kohima Rally: NAWO Protest After Botsa Assault

Later, the the father called back the accused Mohamad Sagat to the shop, where discussions were held. The Panchayat instructed the family not to leave Kohima until the issue is resolved and told the son to stop sitting in the shop to prevent further conflict.

Rare Incident Condemned by Leaders

“This is the first such incident in our colony. Whether local or non-local, such actions are not acceptable. We condemn the act and trust that justice will be delivered through proper law and order,” said Belho and Jamir. Also Read Why Nagaland Has No CBI Office: A Deepening Crisis

The leaders also appealed directly to the victims: “If they see this news, we urge them to come forward so that their side of the story can also be heard. Only then can the Panchayat take a final decision.”

Developing Story

Since the victims’ details remain unknown, the case is still unresolved. The colony leaders assured that they will follow up until the matter is settled fairly.
