A momentous Thanksgiving and Felicitation Ceremony was held at Yisisotha Baptist Church on October 20. It marked a historic occasion for the people of Yisisotha Village under Meluri District, Nagaland. The event was organized jointly by the Yisisotha Baptist Church (YBC), Yisisotha Village Council (YVC), Yisisotha Women Society (YWS), and Yisisotha Youth Organization (YYO). They honored two distinguished siblings Shri Ar. Tarachu Fithu, recently elevated to the post of Director, Urban Development, Government of Nagaland, and Smti. Kusa Fithu. She was promoted to the position of Additional Secretary, Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Nagaland.
Unprecedented Milestone for the Pochury Community
Delivering the welcome address, Shri Moses T. Fithu, Chairperson of the event, described the dual promotion of the siblings. Both were born of the same parents and attained senior government positions within the same period. This was seen as an unprecedented milestone in the history of the Pochury tribe and among the Nagas at large. He attributed the achievement to “sustained prayers and divine blessings” offered during the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) General Conference. This was hosted earlier this year through the Pochury Baptist Church Council (PBCC). Also Read DNSU vs Nirmal Kumar Jain: Nagaland Indigenous Certificate Row
Leaders and dignitaries representing various organizations and neighboring villages delivered congratulatory speeches. They commended the exceptional accomplishments of the honorees. Both were celebrated as sources of wisdom, inspiration, and steadfast guidance not only for their village but for the wider Pochury community and the Naga people as a whole.
Faith, Perseverance, and Gratitude
A spiritual message was delivered by Rev. Waghichu, who ministered to the congregation with a sermon of faith and purpose. Pastors from all denominations within the Phoyisha area collectively offered prayers of blessing for the honoree and the community.
In heartfelt addresses, Smti. Kusa Fithu and Shri Ar. Tarachu Fithu expressed profound gratitude to Almighty God and to their parents for their unwavering prayers and sacrifices. Reflecting on their humble beginnings, they recalled trekking long distances on foot to attend school. They often carried rations and were blessed by pastors before departure. They credited their achievements to perseverance, discipline, and faith. Also Read Nagaland Dy CM Y. Patton Challenged by Hayithung Bill Lotha to Debate on Press Freedom
The ceremony drew wide participation from representatives of the Yisisha Ajüti Lüphü (YAL), Phoyisha Peoples Organization (PPO), PBCC officials, pastors from various denominations, Phoyisha Area Village Councils, GBs, and numerous well-wishers from Phoyisha and surrounding areas.
Inauguration of the Khroshi Kütüpü Link Road
Ahead of the ceremony, on October 18, Shri Ar. Tarachu Fithu inaugurated the newly constructed Khroshi Kütüpü Link Road. This road connects the traditional salt baking site of Yisi Dhüpfhü — renowned for its medicinal and cultural significance. It is located between Yisisotha and Hutsu villages under Weziho Block, Meluri District. The site, previously inaccessible by motorable road, now enjoys improved connectivity through the initiative of the Yisisha Ajüti Lüphü (YAL).
The project, completed within just 10 to 12 days, is expected to greatly facilitate transportation. It will promote rural tourism and enhance local livelihoods by enabling smoother access to the Local Salt Factory (Brine Water Cake). This is a traditional salt-making enterprise passed down through generations.
In his inaugural address, Shri Ar. Tarachu Fithu commended the YAL for its visionary leadership, community-driven approach, and commitment to cultural preservation. He encouraged the continuation of traditional salt-making practices with modern hygiene and safety measures. The new road would play a crucial role in boosting economic growth, tourism potential, and cultural heritage in the region.
Speaking to Nagaland News Today over the phone, one of the organizers expressed gratitude for the community’s collective effort. They highlighted that the event symbolized “a proud moment not only for Yisisotha Village but for the entire Pochury community. This reaffirms the value of unity, prayer, and perseverance.”
