Dimapur, July 5, 2025 — In light of the ongoing monsoon season and the increasing threat of flash floods and rising water levels in rivers and streams, the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has issued a public advisory urging residents to avoid all riverside activities until further notice.

According to the advisory, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has observed that consistent heavy rainfall poses a significant risk of sudden floods across Dimapur district. As a precautionary measure, the public has been strongly advised to refrain from visiting riverbanks for fishing, picnics, or any other water-related activities.

“All villages located along riverbanks are requested to enforce a complete prohibition on such activities throughout the monsoon period,” the advisory stated. The directive aims to ensure public safety and minimize the risk of drowning or injury due to sudden surges in water levels.

The order calls for strict compliance by all concerned, including village councils and local authorities, until the monsoon season ends.

For emergencies, the following helpline numbers have been provided:

  • State Emergency Operation Centre: 1070 (Toll-free), 0370-2291120/22
  • State Disaster Response Force (SDRF): 9366819486, 7005806182
  • DDMA Dimapur: 8415085131

This advisory comes as part of precautionary efforts by the administration to safeguard lives during the peak of monsoon activity.
