The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) has issued a strong press release regarding the recent Chakroma assault incident involving Maova Kuki villagers. This statement raises serious concerns over the safety of Chakroma Angami leaders in Kohima Nagaland.

Assault on Chakroma Leaders

According to the Angami Youth Organization, the incident occurred on February 13, 2026, when Chakroma leaders were allegedly assaulted by individuals from Maova Kuki village. The organization stated that the attackers intended to cause grievous harm. In fact, it was only by divine providence that the leaders survived the incident.

AYO confirmed it is closely monitoring developments in the Chakroma area. It also expressed deep alarm over what it described as a hostile and aggressive act against Angami leadership.

Reference to 1995 Quit Notice

The press release also revisited the historical context of the Quit Notice 1995. The organization recalled that in 1995, two Angami brothers were reportedly robbed and brutally murdered in Manipur. Afterward, this led to a Quit Notice being issued to Kukis residing within Angami jurisdiction. Also Read Chakhrama Youth Organisation Issues Ultimatum to Maova Village Council

However, the notice was later kept in abeyance after Kuki leaders approached the Chakroma Public Organization (CPO) and pledged to respect and uphold the authority of the landowners. In addition, a declaration was reportedly made on July 31, 1995, at Medziphema. There, Kuki leaders assured they would abide by Angami Naga customary law and respect the decisions of the Chakroma Angamis.

Warning to Maova Village Council

In light of the recent Chakroma assault, the Angami Youth Organization stated that the 1995 Quit Notice had only been kept in abeyance. Consequently, it could be restored or revived if the situation demands.

AYO has urged the Maova Village Council to comply with the Chakroma Youth Organization’s ultimatum dated February 16, 2026, to avoid adverse consequences. The organization emphasized that land ownership rights and customary laws must be respected and upheld. Also Read Updated Dimapur auto-rickshaw fares

The press statement was issued by the Media Cell of the Angami Youth Organization, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the interests, dignity, and customary rights of the Angami community in Kohima Nagaland.
