In a decisive move to safeguard indigenous rights and regulate unchecked migration, the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has announced the deployment of 100 volunteers daily across all major entry points into Mon district. This measure, effective immediately, is aimed at verifying the documentation of all non-local individuals entering the district.
ILP Mandatory for Entry into Mon District
According to an official notification issued by KSU, volunteers have been stationed particularly at the Namsha and Naginimora gates—key gateways into the district. The volunteers are authorized to inspect and verify the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and supporting documentation of every non-local entrant.
“Anyone found without valid documentation must be deported immediately from Mon district,” the KSU stated firmly in its notice.
Suspension of ILP Registration Urged
Further strengthening its stance, the Konyak Students’ Union has urged the District Administration to temporarily suspend the ILP registration process for a minimum of one month. This, the union believes, will allow sufficient time for thorough scrutiny and reduce the risk of unchecked influx into the region. Also read Nagaland Issues Advisory Amid Assam Eviction Drive Fears
Safeguarding Indigenous Rights and Security
The Union has called for strict compliance from all federating units and relevant authorities in enforcing this initiative. The decision has been framed as a protective measure to preserve the demographic balance, security, and identity of the indigenous population of Mon district.
The KSU reiterated its commitment to upholding the rights and safety of the people of Mon and called upon all stakeholders to support the initiative for the greater interest of the district.
