In a major development aligned with the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), the Department of Power Nagaland has announced that Nagaland Smart Pre-paid Meters will be rolled out across Dimapur, Kohima, and Chümoukedima Divisions in a phased manner beginning December 1, 2025, coinciding with Statehood Day.
Advance SMS Alerts for All Consumers
The department confirmed that registered consumers will receive an SMS three days before their meter is converted from smart post-paid to smart pre-paid mode. Further alerts including low balance warnings, disconnection notices, successful recharge confirmations, and reconnection updates will also be sent regularly. ₹300 Emergency Credit During Transition
To prevent interruptions during the transition period, an emergency credit of ₹300 will be automatically loaded at the time of meter conversion. No disconnections will take place for up to five working days after the switch, even if the credit runs out. Any consumption during this period will be deducted from the consumer’s first recharge. Consumers are advised to recharge early to avoid power interruptions once the emergency credit lapses.
Outstanding Dues to Be Cleared in Six Installments
All outstanding bills accumulated under the old post-paid system will be recovered in six equal monthly installments. Payments must be made at the respective Sub-Division cash counters before the 10th of every month, failing which disconnection may occur.
