The GPRN NNC General Secretary appointment has sparked a fresh dispute within the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland (GPRN) Naga National Council (NNC). Senior leaders, including the Home Kilonser, Chief Secretary, Ao Region President, and Sumi Region President, have raised questions over whether the appointment followed proper organizational procedures. This has created uncertainty within Nagaland politics.

Concerns Raised by Opposition Side

The Home Kilonser of the same faction told Nagaland News Today on phone that the GPRN NNC General Secretary was appointed without their knowledge or approval. They argued that by law and organizational rank, such a decision must pass through the Home Kilonser. Instead, they allege that the Finance Kilonser and Army Chief, along with another leader, made the decision independently.

While they stressed that they are not opposed to the appointment itself, they described the act as a breach of due process. It has become a source of internal misunderstanding within the GPRN NNC.

Clarification from the Other Side

On the other hand, the appointing leaders claim that the decision was rooted in consensus reached during the Naga Independence Day celebrations on 14th August. They said all senior members, including the Home Kilonser, had verbally agreed that the President would make the decision on the vacant General Secretary post. Also Read GPRN/NNC Appoints V. However, they acknowledged that a key condition allowing senior leaders to meet the appointee in person was not fulfilled, leading to the present mistrust.

Current Situation

The opposition insists that the appointment bypassed established procedure. Meanwhile, the appointing side argues that agreement had already been reached during Independence Day discussions. The rift does not stem from outright rejection of the individual appointed. Instead, it arises from the lack of transparency and consultation before the final confirmation.

Conclusion

The GPRN NNC General Secretary dispute highlights a communication gap within the GPRN NNC leadership. Both sides agree the position needed to be filled. However, differing views on procedure and transparency have fueled the controversy. Whether this issue leads to further division or is settled through dialogue will determine the stability of the GPRN NNC’s internal structure.
