A notice issued by the Dimapur Government College Students’ Council (DGCSC) on 26 November 2025 has triggered widespread debate. It warned students that their semester results and marksheets would be withheld if they failed to submit a mandatory ₹100 fee for the upcoming Harbinger Fest.

According to the notice, every student must pay the amount to their Class Representative on or before 3rd December 2025. The DGCSC stated that “no extensions and no reconsideration will be entertained.” Students were instructed to comply “without exception.”

Public Questions Authority Behind Withholding Results

The warning has sparked criticism both inside and outside the institution. Many question how a student body or college organisation can impose a rule that withholds academic results over a ₹100 contribution. Also Read Consumer Rights Awareness Held at Zunheboto College
Several students and parents argue that academic results are a formal right of the student. They should not be tied to participation fees for college events. Others have questioned whether such disciplinary steps fall under the jurisdiction of a student council.

Many social media users have expressed that while colleges often collect small event contributions, linking examination results to a fee payment is excessive. It raises concerns about fairness and legality.

College Urges Cooperation but Faces Backlash

The notice, signed by DGCSC General Secretary Marnhunget Ozukum and Principal Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir, apologised for the short deadline. It requested student cooperation for the event’s successful conduct.
However, the strict clause regarding result withholding continues to draw public scrutiny. There are calls for the administration to clarify whether such an action aligns with academic policy and state education guidelines. Further updates are awaited from the college authorities.
